Entering its third decade this year is the cherished annual Taste of Keystone, an awesome opportunity to savor the finest cuisine in the area and help out a good cause at the same time. The Summit County Mountain Mentors are the beneficiary of this wonderful one-day event. Participating restaurants include Ski Tip Lodge, Keystone Ranch, Alpenglow Stube, and the Bighorn steakhouse. Widely acclaimed pastry chef Ned Archibald will also be sharing his culinary talents, indulging us with incomparable sweet-tooth delights from his kitchen. The event provides live music all afternoon long, including performances by the Iron Horse Bluegrass band, to keep your foot tapping (or stomping) as you enjoy the Keystone cuisine experience.

The Taste of Keystone is set up to accept Taste Tickets, which cost a dollar each. Restaurants offer samples that vary in cost from one to five tickets each.

The 21st Annual Taste of Keystone occurs on September 25, 2009. Keystone sports some of the tallest vertical spires in the Rocky Mountains (and some truly breathtaking views,) yet it’s amongst the closest to Denver. Located just off of I-70 and east of Loveland Pass, Keystone is very convenient to Denver and the entire front range.

Kids are always welcome at Keystone. As is usually the case, bounce-houses will be set up for them to play in, or youngsters can head over to the Keystone Adventure Center, where they can take paddle boat rides and indulge in other fun activities! Of course, they are welcome to sample the delicious foods too!

Most years, the beginning of September is a truly ideal time to visit the Rockies. The worst heats of the summer months have passed, and temperatures are in a very comfortable mid-70’s range. Vegetation is still full and lush, and the leaves are just starting to change. Soon they will be a riot of color, a rich tapestry laid out across the mountainsides. The sky is a deep blue, and all is serene.
