Sunset at the Summit Concert Series - August

Published by david at 3:04 pm under Events

While it’s true that Summit County’s slopes shine brightly each winter, summers are awesome up in the Rockies as well! One of the great things about Rocky Mountain summers is that the celebrations last all summer long! This year, for example, there’s a free summer concert series, Sunset At The Summit, in Dillon, Colorado, at the Lake Dillon Ampitheatre. The Lake Dillon Foundation for the Performing Arts, under the presidency of Jeanne Del Mar, presents these free concerts. The line-up has come a long way since the series began in 1994. Summit County and Front Range residents have both enjoyed the generosity of the Foundation.

This summer, 2009, has been a fantastic season for the Sunset at the Summit Concert series. August is a very full month, with five shows: Chris Daniels and The Kings on August 1st, Sheryl Renee on August 8th, Vantage on August 15th, The Informants on August 22nd, and Home Slice on August 29th. The concert series ends for the year with a bang: On September 5th, the Hazel Miller Band will entertain us.

Concessions are available, and benefit the Lake Dillon Foundation. It’s generally good form to leave one’s pets at home for the sake of the comfort of both the pets and other concert-goers. A light jacket may be needed on some nights, as it tends to get rather chilly at mountain altitudes.

The Lake Dillon Amphitheatre is located on the shores of beautiful Lake Dillon, just 60 miles west of Denver, directly off of I-70. The concerts are held with open-air seating, breathtaking views of the Rocky Mountains forming a splendid backdrop for the stage area. By the first week of September, mountain trees’ leaves may already have begun to change colors, adding color to the dazzling tapestry of trees that blanket the mountains.

Local hotels offer overnight lodgings, and camping is available at sites along the shoreline (arrangements and reservations must be made with the U.S. Forest Service for lawful use of those sites.) With Silverthorne, Frisco and Breckenridge just a short drive away, one can make a weekend get-away of any of these concert series events! Go by yourself, go with a friend or loved one, or take the entire family, but by all means, get out and enjoy the 2009 Sunset at the Summit Concert Series!
